Unverified Source: Efterslægtstavle for Hans Hansen (Født i 1657) - from Bertel and Lis Bertelsen (see media page for Hans Pedersen b. 1673): For a time he apprenticed as a carpenter as an aid in his work as a farmer. Following that he was a foreman at the home of Pastor Holten and after that for Pastor Schebel, both of Thorning Church. He spent half a year as a soldier in Århus.
He was the "Sognefoged" (Registrar for the sound). At the time of his marriage he was from Ungstrup. Later he is listed as "Møllejer" (He was co-owner of Thorning Mill from 1873, having purchased the mill from Laurits Laursen Eskildsen, with his brother Jens Christian until the latter’s death in 1877).
Unverified Source: Efterslægtstavle for Hans Hansen (Født i 1657) - from Bertel and Lis Bertelsen (see media page for Hans Pedersen b. 1673): In 1873 he purchased land in Lille Gråskov.
In 1878 he sold the mill and purchased the farm Ravnsborg on 24 Jun 1878. The purchase price was 9,800 DK, and the livestock consisted of 3 cows. He had the farm for 27 years and built up the farm until it had 12 cows plus calves. He dealt in horses and traveled to markets in Viborg, Silkeborg, Hobro, Holstebro, Skive, Bejerringbro, Struer, Hjallerup, Herning, and Randers. He was the chairman of the parish council for 22 years, and a parish officer for 28 years. He was also an arbitrator in livestock disputes, and on the board of the Kjellerup bank. He was honored for his contributions with the Order of Denmark (“Dannebrogsmand”) on 18 July 1929.
In later life he lived at “Kirkely,” Blichersvej 31 in Thorning, which was the old Thorning School property. Purchased the property from Thorning Kommune in 1905. This was the first school in Thorning and was built in 1755. (Source: 50th Wedding newspaper article of his grandson, Frederik Bertelsen (b1906) states that he is the third generation in the house.)
